Dr. Jerry
Hillenburg was born in Oklahoma City, OK on July 12,
1959 and was raised in southern Indiana.
A 1977 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High
School in Bedford, IN he went into the United States
Army right out of high School where he would eventually
attend Officer School and graduate at the top of his
class receiving the Erickson Trophy for leadership
and academic excellence.
On February 21, 1982 while
working on the Mitchell, IN Police Department, then
Sergeant Hillenburg, realized, for the first time
in his life, that he was a lost soul. That night,
at his home, he ask Jesus to come into his heart and
save him. Raised in fundamental Baptist Churches all
of his life, he had lived, since the age of 12, as
a lost Church member.
Dr. Hillenburg then became
a police officer in southern Indiana rising to the
rank of Chief of Police in Paoli, IN. During his time
there he felt the call of God to preach upon his heart.
Surrendering to that call in January of 1987 he began
to Pastor his first Church while still working full
time as a Police officer. During that period Dr. Hillenburg
began to pursue and his undergraduate degree as God
moved him into the full time ministry and away from
law enforcement.
At his second Pastorate
in Hanover, IN he continued to pursue his educational
desires finishing his Bachelor of Theology from Christian
Bible College and Seminary. He then began to dedicate
himself to both the Pastorate and his graduate degree.
In January 1996 God called
Dr. Hillenburg to Hope Baptist Church and as he assumed
the rigorous responsibilities and duties he finished
his graduate degrees of a Master of Exegetical Theology
and Doctor of Theology. Dr. Hillenburg was also honored
by the Heritage Baptist University, of Greenwood IN,
with an Honorary Doctor of Religion.
Dr. Hillenburg is a
powerful, charismatic preacher who has published two
books: “Notes from a Pastor’s Heart”
and “Why Homosexual Marriage is Wrong.”
He currently has a children’s book being reviewed
by publishers.
Dr. Hillenburg
is married to Miss Pammy and has three children: Erin
Hillenburg Kissling, Evin Hillenburg, and LCpl. Eric
Dean Hillenburg USMC, who was killed in combat in
Fallujah, Iraq December 23, 2004.
